- Giving up Drinking Alcohol
-
- If you are trying to stop drinking then there are five specific things you can do to
- help you overcome your bad habit. They are:-
1. Make a list of your personal reasons for lowering your drinking intake. List the improvements that can be made in your health, appearance and image if you decrease the amount you drink. Set yourself some goals.
Plan your strategy. In order to reduce your intake of alcohol, will you abstain altogether, or participate in controlled drinking? Remember you will not be successful if you are doing it to please someone else; it must be something you are doing for you.
2. In order to stop drinking you will need support. As drinking is usually part of - a social occasion, it is important that your friends and family support you in your endeavours.
3. Refrain from drinking for an increasing time period e.g. start with one day a week.Once this has been achieved, gradually increase the number of days that you abstain from drinking each week.
4. Avoid temptation and replace alcohol consumption with a non alcoholic beverage or past-time.
5. Don't give up, especially with things become difficult or if you have a temporary relapse. Throughout the endeavour, always keep your reasons for giving up and your goals in mind.
Start following our 5 point plan today and you will see benefits for the rest of your life.
