Looking at the results of a recent Weight Watcher’s survey, it’s clear that few (if any) body image issues have gone way. In some respects e.g. the pressures associated with the overabundance of media images (traditional and social) seem to have made things worse.
2017 - Hair Care & Identity
Each one of us has a unique head of hair, whether it straight, curly, frizzy, long, short, bleached, coloured or natural. We have approximately 150,000 individual hair strands on our head that grows approximately 1 cm every month. Hair care and retention (loss treatment) is big business; globally the market is worth a £60 billion and £ .5 billion respectively. Our hair, its health, style etc is very important to many of us. Recently BBC Horizon’s ‘Hair Care Secrets’, asked individuals about their hair.
2017 - Fat Shaming Pros & Cons
Many of us, myself included, have been on the receiving end of weight/health guidance from an overweight/obese health professional. I must admit that the thought ‘why should I listen to health advice from someone who is clearly unhealthy and is not following their own advice crossed my mind more than once.
